MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College was held to 25 percent shooting in the second half Thursday night to fall to Tuskegee University, 72-61, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action at Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Spring Hill erased an early 7-0 hole with an 11-2 run to take its first lead of the day, 11-9, on a Tiffany Valentine 3-pointer. Tuskegee pushed back in front, 20-18, but the end of the first quarter, but Valentine hit another 3 early in the second quarter to regain the Badgers' lead, 25-22. Spring Hill went on to carry a 38-31 lead into halftime.
Tuskegee opened the second half with an 11-4 run to tie the game, 42-42, on an Alexis Carter free throw with 4:35 to play in the third quarter. Spring Hill fended off the Tigers' for the next two minutes, but Tuskegee closed the third quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 51-46 lead, which grew to eight points early in the fourth quarter.
A Kate Hammond steal set up an Angel Benson layup to cut the score margin down to five points, 55-50, with eight minutes to play. Christina Massey and Eleana Daniels responded with a pair of jumpers to push Tuskegee's lead to nine, 59-50. The Tigers mostly led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Katie Krout led Spring Hill with 13 points at the half en route to a season-high 21 points. She completed her double-double with 12 rebounds. Valentine finished with 18 points.
Carter led all players with 23 points and six blocks, while Shelle Daniels added 15 points. India Blakely led the Tigers with seven assists.
Spring Hill (8-10, 4-5 SIAC) will travel to Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama on Monday night for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
