FRANKFORT, Ky. – A big third quarter by Kentucky State University proved costly for the Spring Hill College women's basketball team Monday night, falling on the road, 73-58, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Badgers shot 50 percent in the first half to counter the 58.3 percent shooting by KSU to trail at halftime, 33-29. However, Kentucky State used a 27-15 third quarter to pull away. After falling behind by 17 points, 55-38, with 2:33 to play in the third, Spring Hill got no closer than 12 points.
Tiffany Valentine produced the bulk of the scoring for Spring Hill with 21 points.
Daja Walker followed with seven points and
Katie Krout had six points and six rebounds.
Two KSU players posted double-doubles to lead four players in double-figure scoring. Kiante Butts scored 19 and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Brooke Wallace posted 15 points and 16 boards. Jessie Kee and Allenia Ponder followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Spring Hill (8-9, 4-4 SIAC) will return home to Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday to host Tuskegee University at 5:30 p.m. on Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Night.
