Badgers Fall to No. 11 Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. – Spring Hill College was unable to overcome a big first half by 11th-ranked Morehouse College, falling on the road in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action, 72-60, at Forbes Arena.

The Maroon Tigers (10-1, 4-1 SIAC) out-scored Spring Hill, 34-19, in the opening 20 minutes and held the Badgers to 25 percent shooting.

Brandon Fischer hit a 3 on Spring Hill's first possession of the game, but  it was one of only two Badgers' 3s in the first half. A dunk and layup by Omar Alston pushed Morehead in front, 4-3. While Fischer quickly pushed the purple and white back in front, 5-4, and the Maroon Tigers went on an 23-7 run to build its lead into double digits. The lead was as large as 17 points, 34-17, before David Daniels hit a jumper to close the half for Spring Hill.

Fischer, who led Spring Hill with 17 points, and Christian Brandt hit back-to-back 3s early in the second half to make it a nine-point game, 38-29, but the Badgers were unable to get any closer.

While Spring Hill increased its offense in the second half with 44.1 percent shooting to out-score Morehouse 41-38, it was not enough to rally and knock off the Maroon Tigers, which also shot 44 percent in the half.

Daniels followed Fischer's lead with 11 points, while freshman Justin Allison posted his first collegiate double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds and 10 points, scoring eight in the second half. Ryan Littel finished with nine and Christian scored eight – all in the second half.

Alston and Chibueze Ebinum each scored 14 for Morehouse, while Alston added 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.

Spring Hill (5-8, 1-3 SIAC) will look to put an end to its four-game losing skid on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it returns home to the Outlaw Center to host Albany State University at 4 p.m. The women will meet ASU at 2 p.m.
