Badgers, Wolf Pack split non-conference DH at Stan Galle Field
MOBILE, Ala. – Historic Jesuit rivals Spring Hill College (SHC) and the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack split results in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday evening at historic Stan Galle Field with Loyola holding on to take the opener 8-6, but the Badgers bouncing back to win the nightcap 13-4.
 
The Wolf Pack (16-24) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings of the first game and built out as much as a 7-1 advantage before the Badgers rallied to cut the lead down to 7-6 with two runs in the 5th inning and three more tallies in 6th inning. Loyola designated hitter took the wind out of the SHC sails with a no-doubt home run out of left field to lead off the 7th inning as Branden Taravella (2-5) retired the Badgers in order to secure the victory.
 
Taravella took the win in 2.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Grant Schroeder fell to 2-2 on the year in two innings of work after allowing six hits with no walks and a strikeout. Michael Cabeza finished the final five innings with five hits, a walk and three strikeouts for the Badgers.
 
Grayson Williams had a double and three RBIs for SHC. Alexander was a triple away from the cycle collecting a single, double and home run for Loyola while shortstop Zachary Cook and second baseman Spencer Rosenbohm each had two hits for the Wolf Pack.
 
SHC regrouped for the second game and exploded out the gate for a five-run 1st inning in route to taking a 10-2 lead by the end of the 3rd frame. Sophomore starter AJ Fell evened his record at 1-1 on the year with the win in 4.1 innings of work that allowed eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
 
The Badgers racked up 15 hits with center fielder Justin Collier going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Williams added two more hits to his day's totals as did designated hitter Brennan Fontenot, first baseman Keaton Smith, shortstop Daniel Rodriguez and catcher Neil Ring. Fontenot's effort included his team-leading 9th and 10th doubles of the year in the in the 3rd and 5th innings.
 
Rosenbohm fell to 2-1 in two innings, surrendering eight hits and a walk with no strikeouts. Cook was 3-for-3 with a double out of his leadoff position in the Wolf Pack order.
 
The Badgers (16-14, 8-0 SIAC West) will host the Tuskegee University (TU) Golden Tigers (6-23, 2-7 SIAC West) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader on Friday at historic Stan Galle Field beginning at 1 p.m.
