Badgers rally, but can't catch Rams in 9-7 loss
MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team suffered a 9-7 non-conference loss to the University of Mobile (UM) Rams at historic Stan Galle Field on Wednesday night.

The Rams (36-11) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 5½ innings of play, but the Badgers rallied with three runs in the 6th inning and three more in the 7th inning to slice the deficit to just one run headed to the 8th inning.

Mobile responded to the challenge in the 9th inning as first baseman Christian Snow smashed a leadoff homer out of left field and third baseman Gunner Hendrix mashed a run-scoring double into deep right-center field. Hendrix would also provide the heroics with his glove in the bottom of the stanza when he corralled a ball destined for the hole between third and short with the tying runs at second and third bases and two outs then made a solid throw across the diamond to end the game.

SHC left fielder Luke Wall extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a 2-for-5 night while right fielder Grayson Williams had three hits including a double. Center fielder Justin Collier had a double and a triple with two RBIs as second baseman Brandon Donoghue came off the bench to punch two singles with four RBIs.

For Mobile, center fielder Corey Wheaton had a single and a triple for one RBI while Cody Campo (5-2) earned the win in six innings with seven hits allowed, no walks and one strikeout. Hunter Avery picked up his fourth save of 2018 in 2/3 of an inning with no hits and a walk.

Steven Saucier (1-1) took the loss in two innings with one hit, three walks and one strikeout.

The Badgers (21-16, 12-1 SIAC West) next host the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds (17-16, 7-5 SIAC West) in a three-game conference series beginning with a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. at historic Stan Galle Field followed on Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
