LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team rallied to win a non-conference game versus the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers by the score of 11-6 on Wednesday night at Tartt Field.
The Tigers (14-21) took a 6-1 lead with three-run frames in both the 1
st and 2
nd innings, but SHC refused to quit and rallied to score pairs of runs in both the 4
th and 5
th innings before exploding for four more runs in the 6
th frame. Left fielder
Luke Wall put a two-run single into center field in the 4
th inning while center fielder
Justin Collier mashed his seventh homer of the year and pinch hitter
Chet Silveria delivered a sacrifice fly in the 5
th inning. Shortstop
John Sklopan continued his recent hot streak with a two-RBI-double down the left field line in the 6
th inning followed by run-scoring singles from designated hitter
Hunter Romero and third baseman
Maverick Latour.
Catcher
Brennan Fontenot brought in a run in the 8
th inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk as
Rob Ewald picked up his fifth save of the year with three innings of work, two hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
Will Shaw improved to 3-1 with the win in four innings of relief with three hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Sklopan finished the day with three hits and two RBIs while Collier, first baseman
Keaton Smith, and third baseman
Brandon Donoghue each collected two hits. West Alabama placed 10 pitchers on the mound with Colton Morgan (0-4) taking the loss in one-third of an inning with five hits, a walk and a strikeout.
The Badgers (20-14, 11-0 SIAC West) next travel to Pleasant Grove to face Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) rival the Miles College Golden Bears (23-15, 12-0 SIAC West) in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
