Fairchild homer lifts Badgers over Tuskegee, 11-10
TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Junior first baseman Tiffany Fairchild put her first collegiate home run to good use on Sunday afternoon as her one-out, two run shot out of left-center field in the 7th inning lifted the Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team to an 11-10 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division victory and three-game series sweep over the Tuskegee University (TU) Golden Tigers at the TU Softball Field.

The Badgers (18-8, 13-0 SIAC West) held a 9-4 lead over the Golden Tigers (4-27, 2-8 SIAC West) after three innings of play, but the tenacious Tuskegee squad refused to go away quietly and rallied to score two runs in the 5th inning off a CeCe Tennessee homer and four more runs in the 6th frame to claim a 10-9 lead with just three outs to go.

Fairchild's heroics were preceded by a walk by catcher Cassidy Mehr who stepped aside for pinch runner Brittany Hartung, but Hartung would do no more than jog from 1st to home after Fairchild pounded a 0-1 pitch over the wall. Hannah Brenton (12-3) was the winner in 1.2 innings of relief with no hits and four strikeouts as the Badger used all four of their listed pitchers during the game.

Badger batters tallied 13 hits on the day led by Kelsie Authement with three hits followed by Fairchild's two hits, left fielder Sarah Johnson with two hits and three RBIs including a two-run triple, shortstop Hannah Fillmore with two hits including a home run, and designated player Caroline Hart with two hits and a run-driven-in.

SHC will next visit the University of North Alabama (UNA) Lions (24-4) for a non-conference doubleheader on Monday at the UNA Softball Complex beginning at 2 p.m.
