TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team swept both ends of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division doubleheader away from the Tuskegee University (TU) Golden Tigers by the scores of 14-3 and 12-3 on Saturday afternoon at the TU Softball Field.
The Badgers (17-8, 12-0 SIAC West) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with three runs in the 1
st inning and four more in the 2
nd and cruised to a 14-3 Mercy Rule victory in five innings in the opener. Starter
Hannah Brenton (11-3) went three innings with three hits allowed, two walks and one strikeout while reliever
Julia Waters finished the final two innings with no hits or walks and one strikeout. SHC rolled up 10 hits with second baseman
Delaney Thomas, shortstop
Hannah Fillmore and third baseman
Randi DeArmitt all collecting two hits each.
Single runs by Tuskegee in the 1
st and 3
rd innings staked the home team to a 2-0 lead, but the Badgers answered back with a five-run 4
th frame highlighted by a solo home run by centerfielder
Brooke Vosloh and two-run home down the left field line by catcher
Cassidy Mehr. Six Badgers enjoyed a multiple-hit game as SHC racked up 14 hits.
Tiffany Hughes (4-2) went the distance allowing six hits and two walks with no strikeouts.
SHC remains in Tuskegee on Sunday to finish this series with the Golden Tigers (4-26, 2-7 SIAC West) in a single game at 12 p.m. on the TU Softball Field.
