Badgers take Game 3 over Dragons, 11-6
MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team completed a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic (SIAC) series sweep of the Lane College (LC) Dragons with an 11-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at Murray Field.
 
The Dragons (1-6, 0-3 SIAC West) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when shortstop Raven Shoulders successfully stole 2nd base and the throw down squirted into center allowing left fielder Kyra Reed to score from 3rd base.
 
Spring Hill responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame as second baseman Delaney Thomas delivered a run-scoring double to deep left field and catcher Aly Fowler picked up an RBI off an infield grounder. Lane would explode for four runs in the top of the 3rd inning with the big hit coming off the bat of  third baseman Breanna Glass who punched a two-run triple down the right field line with two outs.
 
The Badgers tied the game at 5-5 in the next half inning as Fowler lifted a sacrifice fly to right and shortstop Hannah Fillmore found two RBIs with a single up the middle of the infield. Single runs crossed the plate for SHC in the 4th and 5th innings after Thomas brought in a runner with a single to center and right fielder Carlisle Jamison ripped an RBI-single up the middle with two outs.
 
Four unearned runs by the Badgers in the 6th inning resulted from three hits and two Dragon errors with the big play coming when Fowler lifted her second sacrifice fly of the day to deep center field, but was dropped allowing two runs to scamper home. Earlier in the stanza, designated player Kelsie Authement drove in a run with a solid double to center-right.
 
Tiffany Hughes evened her record at 2-2 collecting a win in 4.2 innings of relief with six hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Ericka Webster (0-3) took the loss in 4.0 innings of relief, allowing eight hits and two walks with no strikeouts.
 
The Badgers (11-8, 6-0 SIAC West) will travel to Jasper, Ala., on Thursday to begin play in the 2018 SIAC Interdivisional Crossover Tournament starting at 1:15 p.m. versus the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Panthers (1-6, 1-1 SIAC East) at Memorial Park.
