F.I.T. takes two from Baseball Badgers
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team took losses in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field by the scores of 13-3 and 8-1.
 
The Panthers (7-12) rolled up 14 hits in the opening game as Badger starter Lucas Kunkel (0-1) allowed seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Badger designated hitter Brennan Fontenot enjoyed a 3-for-3 contest with a home run and two runs scored. Center fielder Justin Collier slapped a triple in the 7th inning and third baseman Maverick Latour collected two hits including a double.
 
FIT's Ty Cohen (3-1) earned the complete-game victory allowing seven hits and one walk with 13 strikeouts.
 
In the nightcap, Florida Tech collected 12 hits as Badger starter Jonathan Williams (0-3) went four innings with eight hits, six walks and three strikeouts.Left fielder Luke Wall was 4-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI while shortstop Daniel Rodriguez added two hits to his totals.
 
Sam Crocker of FIT improved to (1-0) on the year in five innings of work with four hits, one walk and a two strikeouts. Panther right fielder Daniel Szpik had two hits including a two-run homer in the 1st inning.
 
The Badgers (3-12) will remain in Melbourne for Game 3 with the Panthers on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. (east) on Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
