No. 2 Tampa too much for Badgers in 13-1 loss
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team endured a 13-1 non-conference loss to the 2nd-ranked University of Tampa (UT) Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Jim Spooner Field in Day 2 of the Argos Invitational on the campus of the University of West Florida (UWF).
 
The Spartans (6-2) put three runs on the board in the 5th inning to expand a 1-0 lead to 4-0 and then tacked on four runs in the 7th and five runs in the 8th inning.
 
Badger starter Austin Barrios (0-2) took the loss for SHC in 4.0 innings with nine hits allowed, two walks and three strikeouts as five SHC pitchers surrendered 16 hits to the Spartans. Cole Aker (2-0) was the winner in 7.1 innings with three hits, no walks and four strikeouts.
 
Badger catcher Brennan Fontenot continued his hot start to the year with his second homer of the year in the 7th inning.
 
The Badgers (2-6) will remain in Pensacola on Sunday to play the host UWF Argonauts (2-5) at Spooner Field beginning at 3 p.m.
