Badgers Sweep Day 1 of SIAC Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Spring Hill College made short work of its first two Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Tournament matches on Monday, Nov. 5, defeating both Benedict College and Tuskegee University in three sets to advance to Tuesday's winner's bracket semifinals.

Kassandra Fairly and Allison Weimer led Spring Hills' attack on Day 1 with 20 and 16 kills respectively for the day.

Fairly posted 12 kills in the first match to lead SHC to its first SIAC postseason win, taking down Benedict 25-10, 25-12 and 25-10. Weimer had 10 kills in the match.

In the nightcap, the Badgers took care of Tuskegee, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-14. Taylor Hurst and Fairly each had eight kills, while Weimer had six.

Cassidi Sterrett posted 17 digs in each match, while Emmarose Neibert had 32 assists against Benedict and 31 in the win over Tuskegee.

Spring Hill will meet Kentucky State University at 1 p.m. on Tuesday with the winner advancing to the SIAC Championship match on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

In other SIAC action, Clark Atlanta will meet Albany State on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. and Tuskegee will face Paine College, also at 10 a.m. The winners of each match will play at 4 p.m. for a chance to meet the loser of Spring Hill and KSU at 7 p.m. for a chance to play their way back into the championship bracket.
