NEW ORLEANS, La. – Spring Hill College fell on the road at Loyola University, 66-58, on Tuesday afternoon in Loyola's Champions of Character Game.
Spring Hill led a few times early in the game, but Loyola, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA, built a 21-18 to end the first quarter.
Mathilde Nicolas opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer for the Badgers, followed by a basket by Valentine to tie the game, 23-23, but Kayla Anthony answered with a 3 for Loyola. The Wolfpack went on to build its lead to 10 points, 37-27, before going into halftime with a 38-29 lead.
In the fourth quarter, still trailing by 10, Spring Hill scored five straight on a trio of Valentine free throws and
Katie Krout basket to cut into the Loyola lead.
Valentine led all players with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Elise Reilly followed with 12 points for Spring Hill, while
Daja Walker and Krout each scored eight.
Kaila Anthony led Loyola with 19 points.
Spring Hill (1-2) will open its home schedule on Thursday, Nov. 15 to host William Carey University at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
