MOBILE, Ala. – Opening night in Outlaw Recreation Center belonged to the Badgers as Spring Hill College blew past William Carey University, 78-54, on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Spring Hill opened the game with a 16-15 edge over William Carey through the first quarter, but the Crusaders pushed back to take a 23-18 lead with 4:20 to play in the opening half. The Badgers outscored William Carey, 11-2 to close the half up, 29-25.
Elise Reilly hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points in the third quarter as Spring Hill pulled away with a 23-2 run. The Badgers' lead grew as high as 26 points, 70-44, on a layup by
Katie Krout.
Reilly and Krout each shot 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the floor and finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Tiffany Valentine led all players with 21 points on 88.9 percent shooting (8-of-9) and secured twelve rebounds, along with Krout's 8 Rebounds.
Angel Benson had five assists.
Shantavis Hughes led William Carey with 10 points.
The win is Spring Hill's fourth-straight against William Carey (0-1), a former NAIA Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) opponent.
Spring Hill (2-2) will continue its swing of former SSAC foes when it hosts cross-town rival University of Mobile (1-4) on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.
