Mobile, AL – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) decision to Lee University on Sunday afternoon.
Lee led 3-0 after the first half on an unassisted goal by Emma Higgins in the 34
th minute and two penalty kicks. Lee outshot SHC in the period 15-3 and out-distanced the Badgers from the corners 8-0. The second penalty kick came with just 10 seconds remaining in the half when
Kylee Harrell was given a red card for an intentional handball in the box. SHC was forced to play a person down the entire second half as a result.
The second half action saw Lee continue to control the game as the Flames extended their lead out to the final margin 6-3 with goals in the 50
th, 52
nd, and 78
th minutes. Lee outshot the shorthanded Badgers 13-4 in the frame. Badger keeper
HP Fluharty went the full 90 minutes in goal for SHC and made 9 saves in the loss.
"We played really hard today while dealing with a lot of adversity," said Head Coach
Allison Whitworth. "I'm really pleased with the effort throughout the game from everyone, especially the players taking on new roles. Our leadership from captain Gabriel Burmaster kept us focused. HP faced a lot of shots and attacking plays and dealt with an ever changing back line and played really well."
The Badgers (1-10, 1-7 GSC) will remain at home to host Alabama Huntsville at 3:30 PM on Friday, October 12 and West Alabama at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 14.
