Clinton, MS The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team traveled to Jackson, MS for a neutral site Gulf South Conference (GSC) match against Christian Brother's University (CBU) that was rescheduled from September 14th due to weather. The Badgers came away with a 3-2 golden goal overtime victory to set up a show down on Saturday against West Florida for outright possession of first place in the conference standings. SHC has already secured a playoff spot as they look to earn their first GSC regular season championship.

The match was tightly contested throughout as neither team created much separation statistically. SHC outshot CBU 16-3 overall and 8-6 in shots on goal. The Badgers did have an advantage in corners with 9 to CBU's 3.

CBU got on the board first as Xavi Lao scored in the 14th minute to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead early on. The Badgers would answer back just four minutes later as Matthew Moreno scored a nice goal off an assist from Tilman Schober to even things at 1-1. Neither team could generate another first half goal as both defenses stiffened until halftime.

CBU again seized the momentum in the second period with a goal in the 62nd minute from Maximillian Galizzi. CBU would hold the 2-1 advantage deep into regulation before a foul in the box afforded SHC with a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of play. Alex Lipinski calmly knocked home the equalizer to make it 2-2 through regulation.

During the overtime period, play was intense as both teams fought for victory and 3 crucial ranking points in the conference standings. SHC broke through in the 95th minute when Timo Schabetsberger notched his first goal of the season for the game winner. The win puts SHC on a collision course with West Florida on Saturday with regular season champion and conference tournament seeding stakes on the line.

"The guys did it again," said Head Coach Steve Wieczorek. "To come from behind, not once, but twice to get the win speaks to the strength of their character and the will of the team to win. We've set ourselves up for a showdown with UWF on Senior Day this coming Saturday. It should be a fantastic game."

The Badgers (12-1, 8-0 GSC) will return home for their match against West Florida on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00 PM on Library Field.
