MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to the Lee University (LU) Lady Flames at Library Field on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Flames (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute when Devin Healy accepted a corner kick from McKenzie Bricker and found the net at the far post, but SHC answered right back in the 35
th minute as junior
Gabrielle Burmaster of Harvey, La., found the top of the goal with a shot from the top of the box off a long pass over the defense by freshman
Sidney Spivey from Edgewood, Ky.
Lee wrestled away control of the match late in the 2
nd half when Lauren Peters scored in the 63
rd minute from eight yards out off a crossing pass to the middle of the box by Summer Lanter and Healy struck pay dirt again from six yards out via another pass from Bricker after clearing the ball off a corner kick attempt.
Anna Leslie of the Flames closed out the day in the 86
th minute with a header from the right side at six yards with an assist from Marissa Villafuerte.
"It was a very hard-fought 90-minute game," said SHC head coach
Allison Whitworth. "I'm proud of the team working to build an identity on the field and excited for the next games to come."
Hannah Shankman (0-1) took the loss in-goal for the Spring Hill despite making three saves against a battery of 32 shots and 11 corners from Lee. Erin Olson (2-1) made two saves versus four shots and no corner attempts by the Badgers.
Due to Hurricane Irma, the Badgers' (0-3) match at Shorter University in Rome, Ga., on Sunday has been postponed to a date and time yet to be determined. SHC will next play at the Union University Bulldogs on Friday, September 15, in Jackson, Tenn., at 5 p.m.
