Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team stormed to a 12-2 non-conference Mercy Rule victory over the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers in seven innings at Tartt Field.
SHC grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning when left fielder
Conner Harrison brought in two runs with a two-out single through the left side and then tacked on two more runs in the 2
nd inning when center fielder
Ulysses Fluellen drove a single up the middle that plated catcher
Brennan Fontenot and right fielder
Justin Collier.
The wheels completely came off the bus for the Tigers (23-11) in the 4
th inning as the Badgers put eight runs across the plate in a frame highlighted by 3
rd baseman
Brandon Harigel's Grand Slam to left field that made it a 9-0 ballgame.
Austin Barrios (3-4) allowed just three hits in the complete-game victory for the Badgers while UWA starter Colton Morgan (2-2) lasted just two innings giving up four hits and three walks with no strike outs.
Spring Hill was paced at the plate by Fluellen with three hits and two RBI, first baseman
Hunter Romero with two hits, and Collier with two hits and three runs scored.
For UWA, third baseman Marcus Morrisette had two hits with a solo home run to lead off the 5
th frame and pinch hitter Luke Latham earned an RBI single to right with one out in the 7
th inning.
The Badgers (20-15, 9-0 SIAC) travel to Montgomery this weekend to face Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponents the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers (17-17, 3-6 SIAC) in a three-game series at Paterson Field beginning with a double header on Saturday at 2 p.m.
