Choctaws down Badgers 10-4
Box Score CLINTON, Miss. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team lost a 10-4 decision to the Mississippi College (MC) Choctaws at Frierson Field in a non-conference meeting on Wednesday evening.

The Choctaws (17-22) took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when right fielder Chance Whitten collected a run-batted-in with a two-out single to right that plated third baseman Hunter Wilson from 2nd base.

SHC responded with three runs in the next half inning when designated hitter Hunter DArmond drove in left fielder Conner Harrison from 2nd base with a single to left and catcher Brennan Fontenot collected two runs off a wind-aided double that found the inside of the right field foul line all with two outs.

MC led off the bottom of the 2nd inning with four consecutive singles and an infield error to tie the game at 3-3. K.C. Echols then added a two-run single as the Choctaws reclaimed a 5-3 advantage. An RBI-grounder and lazy fly ball to right would end the inning with MC leading 6-3.

SHC center fielder Ulysses Fluellen cut the Badger deficit to 6-4 with a two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the 7th inning for his 10th dinger of 2017, but MC tacked on four runs in the 8th frame to sew up the victory.

Badger starter Dylan Kiene (4-3) took the loss in two innings with seven hits, no walks and no walks as four SHC pitchers allowed 15 hits to the Choctaws.  MC reliever Hunter Lacefield (4-3) picked up the win by going two innings with three hits, no walks and two strike outs.

At the plate, first baseman Hunter Romero led the Badger with two hits while Wilson paced the Choctaws with three hits and two RBI.

The Badgers (23-20, 11-4 SIAC) will travel to Frankfort, Ky., this weekend to face the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds (16-27, 10-5 SIAC) in a three-game conference series beginning with a noon (east) double header on Saturday at the KSU Baseball Field.
