Tigers outlast Badgers 8-4
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team suffered an 8-4 non-conference loss to the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.

SHC grabbed an early 2-0 lead over the Tigers (12-7) in the 1st inning after leadoff hitter Daniel Rodriguez scampered home on a wild pitch and left fielder Conner Harrison brought in center fielder Ulysses Fluellen with a two-out single up the middle of the infield. UAW answered back in the top of 3rd frame with a grounder to 1st base that plated a run from 3rd base and a single through the left side by second baseman Luke Phillips that scored shortstop Joel Murphy. Tiger left fielder Brock Montgomery then put UWA up 3-2 in the 4th inning with a solo home run out of right-center.

UWA tacked on a fourth run in 5th inning with another RBI-single by Phillips before SHC responded with a run in the 6th inning off a run-scoring double to right-center by Harrison. The Tigers got that run back in the 7th inning, however, when right fielder Taylor Stafford drove a triple into the right-center gap to score third baseman Nick Delgado all the way from 1st base.

The Badgers would put the tying runs at 1st and 2nd with no outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, but a 3rd to 1st double play ball and fly ball to left would end the threat for the Tigers. UWA also added a run in the next half inning with an RBI-single through the right side by catcher Tyler Lee. SHC put a run on the board in the bottom of the 8th inning when catcher Neil Ring brought in Harrison with a grounder to short, but two more insurance runs by the Tigers in the 9th inning sealed the night for the visitors from Livingston.

Badger starter Justin Whitsett took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the year in five innings with five hits, three walks and a strike out while Colton Morgan of UWA moved to 2-1 in four innings of work with four hits, two walks and five strike outs. Both teams used four pitchers on the day as SHC hitters tallied nine hits, three walks and nine strike outs while UWA batters totaled 12 hits, five walks and five strike outs.

At the plate, Rodriguez and Harrison along with Badger 3rd baseman Brandon Harigel all had two hits on the day. UWA was paced by Phillips who was 4-for-4 with a walk and two RBI, 3rd baseman Marcus Morrisette with three hits and an RBI, as well as Stafford and Montgomery with two hits each.

The Badgers (9-9) will next host the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets (0-7) in a non-conference game at Stan Galle Field on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
