Big 4th frame lifts Montevallo past Badgers, 8-2
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team gave up six runs in the 4th inning to the University of Montevallo (UM) on Tuesday night at historic Stan Galle Field to hand the visiting Falcons an 8-2 non-conference victory.

Spring Hill took an early 2-0 lead over the Falcons (19-14) with runs off a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from right fielder Justin Collier that was followed by a sacrifice fly to center by shortstop Daniel Rodriguez, but the wheels came off the wagon for the Badgers in the 4th inning when UM used two Badger errors, two singles and two doubles to plate six runs. The biggest blow of the stanza came with two outs as Falcon shortstop Collin Dupree drove a 3-RBI double into left-center to turn a 2-2 deadlock into a 5-2 deficit for the home team.

UM designated hitter Dominic DeVille lead off the 5th inning with a first-pitch homer off the scoreboard in left field and a fourth Badger infield error lead to the eighth and final Montevallo run in the 7th inning.

Austin Barrios fell to 2-4 with the five-inning loss by allowing six hits with three walks and six strike outs while Michael Romano finished the final four innings with three hits, a walk and three strike outs. Justin Whitley evened his record at 3-3 on the season in 6.1 innings with three hits, three walks and five strike outs for the Falcons.

At the plate, Collier had a single and an RBI for SHC as Montevallo second baseman Caleb Ledbetter had three hits and Dupree collected two hits with three RBI.

The Badgers (16-14) will take another crack at the Falcons on Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Stan Galle Field.
