Badger baseball splits DH at Loyola
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WESTWEGO, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team visited Segnette Field for a non-conference double header versus Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack on Wednesday night and came away with a 5-4 loss and a 4-2 victory to take the season series by a 3-1 margin.
 
The Wolf Pack (13-15) rallied from a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the 4th inning of the first game to score five unanswered runs with three in the 4th frame along with one each in the 5th and 6th innings to take a 5-4 victory away from the Badgers.
 
Left fielder Conner Harrison of SHC collected his third home run of the year in the top of the 4th inning with a solo shot that extended the Badger lead to 4-0, but Loyola would tie the game in the 5th inning off a bases-loaded hit batter and then finally wrest away the lead in the 6th with a run-scoring single to center field.
 
Austin Barrios (2-2) took the loss in relief of starter Justin Whitsett who lasted 4.1 innings with six hits, two walks and three strike outs while Barrios allowed two hits and two walks with no strike outs over the final 1.2 innings. Third baseman Brandon Harigel was 3-for-4 with his seventh double of the year in the 1st inning while first baseman Michael Druhan had two hits including an RBI-triple with two outs in the 1st inning.
 
Jordan Green (2-3) of the Wolf Pack picked up the win in two innings of relief with just one hit and one strike out.  
 
In the nightcap, the Badgers exploded for four runs in the 1st inning and held on for a 4-2 victory. Druhan rapped out a double and a single in the game as did senior center fielder Ulysses Fluellen. SHC starter Michael Romano evened his record at 2-2 on the year in five innings with just two hits, a walk and three strike outs while Sean Bretz earned his first save of the season in two innings with no hits, a walk and five strike outs.
 
The Badgers (10-11) will next travel to Orangeburg, S.C., this weekend to open the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) portion of their schedule with a three-game series with the Claflin University Panthers (6-14) at historic Mirmow Field beginning with a 1 p.m. (east) double header on Saturday.
