Danielle Clark pitched the Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team to a pair of non-conference victories by the scores of 3-0 and 2-1 over its arch-rivals the University of Mobile (UM) Lady Rams at Murray Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
In the opening game, Clark (3-2) pitched her second career no-hitter and missed a perfect game by just a 1
st-inning hit batter and a 5
th-inning infield error while striking out four UM batters.
Â
Junior
Carmen Byrd put the Badgers up 1-0 in the 4
th inning with a double to left that brought in freshman
Sarah Johnson from 3
rd base. SHC scored two more in the 5
th frame when sophomore
Madeline Burchell scored on a throwing error by the UM catcher and Johnson later maintained an intentional run down between 1
st and 2
nd bases long enough to bring in fellow freshman
Bayleigh Anders from 3
rd base before the third out tag was applied.
Â
The second game saw the Badgers and Lady Rams (4-2) head to an extra inning after seven scoreless frames of play. In the top of the 8
th inning, the Lady Rams broke the ice when Clark uncorked a wild pitch to plate a runner from 3
rd base, but the Badgers answered right back in the next half inning. Johnson would score the tying run from 2
nd base when junior
Rene Kausin's sacrifice bunt was booted by the Mobile infield and sophomore catcher
Kali Clement would end the game with a bases-loaded single to right to score Kausin from 3
rd base.
Â
Clark picked up the win in three hitless innings of relief work for freshman starter
Baylie Doiron who allowed three hits with a walk and a strikeout in her first collegiate start.
Â
At the plate, Clement enjoyed a 4-for-5 day with an RBI while Kausin had two hits with a run scored and Johnson also collect two hits and a run scored.
Â
Spring Hill (3-3) will next visit Montgomery to play the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks in a non-conference game on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
