Baseball splits DH with AUM Warhawks
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader versus the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field by falling 8-5 in the opener, but bouncing back to take the nightcap 7-4.
 
The Warhawks (2-1) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first game, but SHC answered back with three runs in the 2nd inning. AUM found four runs in the 5th frame and another two runs in the 6th inning in route to the 8-5 victory. Right fielder Justin Collier collected two hits while Justin Whitsett (0-1) took the loss in 4.1 innings with six hits allowed four walks and a strike out.
 
In the second game, the Badgers once again found themselves down 3-1 after one inning, but rallied to score in the 2nd inning to claim a 4-3 advantage. A single run in the 5th and a pair of runners crossing the plate in the 6th iced the first win of the year for Spring Hill. Collier added two hits to his day's totals while Ulysses Fluellen collected two hits including a double.
 
Sean Bretz (1-0) earned the win with five innings of relief work allowing no hits with two walks and three strike outs.
 
The Badgers (1-2) will next host the preseason-ranked No. 3 University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts (0-3) at Stan Galle Field on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
