Badgers open season with 5-4 loss to AUM
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team suffered a season-opening 5-4 loss to the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
 
Spring Hill fell behind 1-0 in the top half of the 1st inning against the Warhawks (1-0), but bounced back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame off a solo home run by freshman Justin Collier and a run-scoring single by graduate transfer Brandon Harigel that plated freshman Ben Bolton.
 
AUM took a 3-2 lead in the 6th inning off an infield throwing error by the Badgers and an RBI-single, but SHC rallied to tie the game in the in the 8th inning when junior Conner Harrison brought in senior Ulysses Fluellen with a sharp single to left field.
 
The Warhawks scored twice in the 9th with a bases-loaded single and a ground-ball out that forced in a run. Harigel would tack on a solo home run in the bottom of the 9th inning for SHC with two outs, but a final ground out to 2nd base would end the rally for the Badgers.
 
Collier, Harrison and Harigel each ended the day with two hits for SHC while Hunter DArmond (0-1) took the loss in relief of Dylan Kiene who went 5.1 innings while allowing six hits, a walk and three strike outs.
 
The Badgers (0-1) and the Warhawks will meet again on Saturday in a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field beginning at noon.
