Badger Softball makes statement with Day 1 wins at Disney
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team made a serious statement as to the status of SHC softball at Day 1 of the Disney Tournament with a 5-1 extra inning victory over the Armstrong State University Pirates and a 3-2 walk-off win versus the 4th-ranked University of North Georgia (UNG) Nighthawks (15-5) on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Danielle Clark (9-2) earned the wins in both games by going the distance in the opener versus the Pirates (7-4) and then picking up a win in relief of freshman Baylie Doiron in the nightcap versus the Nighthawks. Clark went all eight innings against Armstrong allowing five hits with five walks and three strike outs as Spring Hill scored four runs in the top of the 8th inning to break open a 1-1 tie. Sophomore catcher Kali Clement once again provided the heroics with a two-run single to center to drive in the go-ahead runs in the persons of pinch runner Sarah Johnson and center fielder Jenna Charnock.

In the second game, Clark would reemerge from the Badger dugout in the 4th inning with the scored tied 2-2 with no outs and two on for the Nighthawks. After a single to left loaded the bases, Clark would escape the jam with two pop-ups and a fly ball to Savannah Woodruff in left field. In the bottom of the 7th inning, UNG had seen enough of Clement and elected to intentionally walk her and face freshman pinch hitter Cassidy Mehr who promptly drove the first pitch she saw into center field to plate Charnock from 2nd base with the winning run.

Clement finished the day with three hits including a home run and five RBI while Charnock slapped around four hits and right fielder Katelyn Wilson collected three hits with an RBI.

Spring Hill (13-4) remains Orlando, Fla., to play these same two teams on Saturday beginning with UNG at 10 a.m.
