Surging Spring Hill women upstage Lady Magicians, 85-63
Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team stormed to an 85-63 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) over the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Lady Magicians at Bruce Hall Gymnasium on Thursday evening.
 
SHC wasted little time and raced out to a 24-14 lead over the Lady Magicians (5-21, 4-10 SIAC West) by the end of the 1st quarter and held a 43-29 bulge at half time. With 10 minutes left in the contest the lead had grown to 63-48 and LOC would get no closer during the final period of play.
 
Freshman guard Elise Reilly scored 18 points to lead five Badgers in double-digit scoring efforts.  Senior Alishia DraytonLewis and junior Jewel Hill both added 12 points while senior center Leah Washington had 11 points and freshman forward Katie Krout pitched in 10 points. Drayton-Lewis also hauled down 11 boards to pace the Badgers to a lopsided 47-17 victory in rebounding.
 
The Badgers connected on 55.6% (35-63) of their overall shots and 35.7% (5-14) from 3-point land. SHC committed 23 turnovers in the face of seven steals by the LOC defense.
 
Champale Grays came off the bench to post 11 points for the Lady Magicians as LOC shot 40.7% (22-54) overall and 42.9% (6-14) from 3-point distance. LOC lost 16 turnovers to six SHC steals.
 
Since January 19, a suddenly streaking Spring Hill has won seven of its last nine contests.
 
The Badgers (14-9, 8-5 SIAC West) will now travel to Wilberforce, Ohio, to take on the SIAC West Division-leading Central State University (CSU) Lady Marauders (15-7, 10-4 SIAC West) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
