SHC Baseball splits DH at UAH
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team survived to take an 8-5 victory in 10 innings in the first game and dropped a 6-5 decision on the final of the nightcap at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chargers in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park.

SHC grabbed a 3-0 lead over the Chargers (1-5) in the top of the 3rd inning of opening contest when walk-on freshman Ben Bolton drove a two-run single to left-center to ring up scores by shortstop Daniel Rodrigues and designated hitter Hunter Romero while third baseman Brandon Harigel brought in Bolton with a single to center that was bobbled by the UAH outfield.

The Chargers responded with back-to-back doubles to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the Badger lead to 3-1 and later an infield error by the Badgers with two outs plated an unearned run for UAH to make it 3-2 heading to the 4th frame.

SHC got both runs back in the 4th inning off a sacrifice fly to center field by Romero and an RBI-single to center by Rodriguez that tallied catcher Brennon Fontenot with two outs. UAH right fielder Ben Rhodes then tied the game with a three-run homer out of right in the bottom of the frame.

In the top of the 10th, the Badgers pushed three runs across the plate when Harigel hurried home from 3rd base off a wild pitch with two outs and Romero brought in Ulysses Fuellen and Michael Druhan with a single past the shortstop.

Hunter DArmond took home the win in four hitless innings of relief work with two walks and three strike outs as Michael Romano earned his first save of the year with two strike outs in one inning.

The Badgers broke out to a 4-0 led in the nightcap with a four-run 3rd inning that was highlighted by a three-run homer to center by Druhan, but UAH answered back with a four-run inning of their own in the bottom of the 4th frame.

Druhan was the hero again in the top of the 5th inning when he connected for his second dinger of the day with a blast out of left-center, but once again UAH responded with a run-scoring single just a half inning later. The Chargers then would take home the victory with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Romano took the loss in relief with one hit, three walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.

The Badgers (2-4) and the Chargers will meet again in a single game on Sunday at Charger Park beginning at 1 p.m.
