Badgers burned by Blazers, 3-1
MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 18-25, 21-25) non-conference loss to the Valdosta State University (VSU) Blazers on Friday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
 
The Blazers (11-15) grabbed a quick 7-4 lead in the first set, but the Badgers fought back to take their first lead of the contest at 13-12 and used a late 6-0 run to close out the set with a 25-16 victory.
 
VSU bounced back in the second set by building a 14-7 advantage, but the Badgers again battled back to overtake the visitors from the Peach State at 17-16 only to watch the lead dissolve under a 6-0 run by the Blazers to 22-17 in route to a 25-19 victory.
 
The third set saw VSU race out to a 7-1 lead before the Badgers managed to shave the deficit down to 15-12, but they would get no closer with the Blazers winning 25-18. The two teams clawed point-for-point in the fourth set as HSC turned an 8-8 tie into a 13-9 advantage, but VSU responded by knotting the game at 19-19 and then taking a 22-21 lead before closing out the final three points for the 25-21 victory.
 
Senior Katelyn Bobinger and freshman Allison Weimer led the Badgers with nine kills each. Sophomore setter Emmarose Neibert distributed 20 assists and libero Cassidi Sterrett hauled in 20 digs with 20 receptions. The Badgers compiled a .150 (42-21-140) attack percentage with four aces, 73 digs and nine blocks (18 assisted).
 
VSU built a .177 (54-26-158) attack percentage with seven aces, 73 digs and eight blocks (two solo and 12 assisted). Tristyn Sells and Sara Dandridge had 12 kills apiece while Dandridge added 30 assists and Sydney Chick earned 20 digs with 24 receptions.
 
The Badgers (26-4) will continue this season-ending, four-match home stand on Saturday with a non-conference match versus the University of Mobile Lady Rams (32-3) in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center at 1 p.m.
