LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team endured a 6-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) road loss to the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers on Monday evening at Tiger Stadium in a contest postponed from Sunday due to Tropical Storm Nate.
The Tigers (5-6, 4-5 GSC) took a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute when Marie Dreezen scored off an assist by TeMia Pride for her fourth goal of the year. Dreeen then added a penalty kick goal three minutes later as the Badgers fell into an early 2-0 hole.
Spring Hill's deficit grew to 4-0 before the halftime intermission as Haleigh Kimble scored following an entry pass by Bailee Martin in the 41
st minute and Megan McGettigan found the lower right corner of the net from 25 yards out in the 42
nd minute.
Dreezen made it 5-0 with a hat trick goal in the 55
th minute after Chelsea Commings accepted a long pass down the right sideline and drove a right-to-left pass across the face of the goal to Dreezen for the score. In the 76
th minute, Haleigh Kimble made it a 6-0 contest with an unassisted goal.
Sophomore SHC goalkeeper
HP Fluharty (0-7) made one save against nine shots and three corner kicks in the first half while
Hannah Shankman made no saves against seven shots and two corners in the final period. UWA keeper Jenni Aarniva (5-6) collected two saves against three shots and no corners by the Badgers.
The Badgers (1-11, 0-8 GSC) will next travel to Cleveland, Miss., on Thursday to face the Delta State University (DSU) Lady Statesmen (3-10, 2-8 GSC) in a conference tilt at Delta Field at 3 p.m.
