Badgers snuff out Flames, 2-1
MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team battled to an exciting 2-1 Gulf South Conference (GSC) victory over the Lee University Flames at Library Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Badgers and Flames (4-4-2, 3-3 GSC) fought to a physical 0-0 draw at the intermission, but SHC drew first blood in the 50th minute when junior Tilman Schober played a pass over the defensive line at midfield and senior Ibrahima Ndaw out-raced a Lee defender to the ball. Ndaw then made a running turn at 20 yards out to shield off the Lee player and finished with a one-on-one goal to the far left post.

Lee bounced right back, however, and scored five minutes later when a left-to-right crossing pass from Drew Jackson caught Badger goalkeeper Geraldo Bina out of position and Samaan Wililliams finished with an easy tap in from five yards out.

The game-winning goal for SHC came in the 83rd minute as a spinning Alexander Lipinski squeezed the ball just inside the right post from 12 yards out past a diving Lee keeper after a neatly placed entry pass from Callum Porter.

Following the match, SHC head coach Steven Wieczorek expressed how closely matched the two sides were with each other. "It was a really an enjoyable college soccer game between two evenly matched teams," he said. "We were fortunate through a bit of magic from Alex to break the stalemate and I am very happy for our boys with the deserved 2-1 win."

Bina (5-3) made one save versus seven shots and four corners by Lee while Tristen Putnam (4-4-2) made six saves against 12 shots and four corners from the Spring Hill side.

Lipinski's goal gave him 10 total for the year and places him at No. 3 on the all-time SHC single season goals-scored list and just five goals shy of the school record.

The Badgers (5-3, 3-2 GSC) will now travel to Rome, Ga., to face the Shorter University Hawks (3-7, 2-3 GSC) in a GSC contest beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EST) on Sunday at Ben Brady Field.
