MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team swept to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) victory over the Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks and finished the day by outlasting the host University of Montevallo Falcons 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 15-11) in a non-conference tri-match at Trustmark Arena on Saturday afternoon.
In the match versus the Warhawks (8-15), Spring Hill was led by
Payton Gidney with 12 kills as
Sarah Senft and
Allison Weimer both collected 10 kills apiece. Sophomore setter
Emmarose Neibert handed out 30 assists and sophomore libero
Cassidi Sterrett scooped up16 digs with 13 receptions. The Badgers hit for a combined .345 (50-11-113) with two aces, 63 digs and three (1, 4) blocks while limiting AUM to a .091 (26-16-110) attack percentage with two aces, 46 digs and four (2, 4) blocks.
The Falcons (10-12) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first set of the nightcap match, but SHC rallied to take the set 25-23 and fought off a determined Montevallo squad in a final exciting 3-2 finish. Weimer had 12 kills as Neibert passed out 22 assists and
Hannah Fromdahl added 20 more assists. Gidney served up four aces and
Randi De'Armitt dished out three aces with 13 digs. Sterrett corralled 28 digs with 19 receptions. All told, SHC managed a .079 (50-34-203) attack percentage with 10 aces, 95 digs and seven (1, 12) blocks.
Montevallo Kristy Bohan led all scorers with 20 kills as UM finished the night with a .182 (66-29-203) attack percentage along with four aces, 100 digs and 10 (2, 16) blocks.
The Badgers (25-3) will next host the Warhawks in a non-conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday, October 31, at 6 p.m.
