ROME, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) overtime road loss to the Shorter University Hawks at Ben Brady Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks (2-11-1; 1-10 GSC) and the Badgers fought to a scoreless tie through halftime and regulation as Shorter outshot Spring Hill 11-7 over the first 90 minutes of play.
In overtime, Amberly Halstead of Shorter ended the contest with headed Golden Goal off an entry pass by Taylor Hendrix in the 97
th minute of play.
After the game, SHC head coach
Allison Whitworth commented, "It was a great performance by the entire team. I felt we had the majority of the run of play, but unfortunately, the only stat line that matters is the score at the end. We mentally battled through a long delay to get to overtime. [SHC goalkeeper]
HP Fluharty held them scoreless in regulation with
Aiesha Ledda and
Hannah Fogt denying chances.
Madison Camet and
Devin Fry created plenty of opportunities to score we just need to be more clinical in front of the goal. "
Overall, Fluharty (0-10) faced 14 shots and six corner kicks with seven saves while Sydney Durham (1-10) of Shorter defended seven shots and three corners with four saves.
The Badgers (1-14, 0-11 GSC) will host the University of West Georgia Wolves (7-7; 6-6 GSC) in a GSC match at Library Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
