Badgers battle to 3-0 victory at Loyola
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team swept to a 3-0 (25-18, 32-30, 25-16) non-conference road victory over determined Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack on Tuesday night at The Den.

The Badgers earned a 25-18 victory in the first set, but the Wolf Pack (12-14) bounced back to claim a 13-10 advantage midway through the second set before SHC roared back to take a 16-15 lead behind the serving of sophomore outside hitter Payton Gidney of Grapevine, Texas. Loyola then launched a rally of their own to retake a 21-17 margin, but the Badgers tied the seesaw set 24-24 as the teams proceeded to trade points to 32-30. An assisted block by freshman Allison Weimer from nearby Covington, La., and sophomore Sarah Senft of Spring Grove, Pa., put SHC up 31-30 and a kill off a free ball by Weimer finally ended the marathon stanza 32-30 in favor of the Badgers.

In the third set, SHC grabbed a quick 3-1 lead and maintained a 12-7 cushion followed by a 16-11 lead. From there, the Badgers would win the final spring to the tape with a 25-16 score.

Katelyn Bobinger ended the night with 14 kills and an impressive .737 (14-0-19) attack percentage while Gidney recorded 10 kills. Setters Emmarose Neibert and Hannah Fromdahl dished out 19 and 15 assists respectively as Weimer added eight kills and four blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted). Libero Cassidi Sterrett corralled 15 digs as SHC combined for a .318 (46-12-107) attack percentage with six aces, eight blocks (4, 8) and 45 digs.

Loyola built a .217 (41-18-106) attack percentage with five aces, 43 digs and four blocks (1, 6).

The Badgers (22-3) next host long-time non-conference rival the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights (5-15) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
