Lane Dragons jilt Spring Hill, 64-57
Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team absorbed a 64-57 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division road loss to the Lane College Dragons in J.F. Lane Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
 
Spring Hill jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Dragons (11-8, 8-2 SIAC West) two minutes into the game, but Lane rallied back to tie the game at 12-12 with 12 minutes to go until halftime. Two free throws by Lane tied the game at 27-27 with 1:30 on the scoreboard clock when a layup by the Dragons made it a 29-27 margin for the home team with 57 seconds left.
 
Lane carried a 31-27 cushion to open the 2nd half and quickly expanded the lead to 35-27 by the 18:18 mark of the period. At 13:28 remaining SHC trailed 38-30, but a fast break 3-pointer by Jack Morrissey brought the Badgers within 38-31 only to see Josh Smith-Levi drain a Lane 3-pointer a few seconds later.
 
The teams would trade 3-pointers again at the 4:30 mark as the Dragons maintained a 54-47 lead that grew to 57-49 by the final media timeout at 3:47. Freshman Gresyn Rogers of SHC slammed home a dunk out of the timeout to make it a 57-51 contest and Morrissey made it 57-53 with two free throws at the 2-minute mark. Kendarius Ash of Lane found a crease in the Badger defense for a layup, but picked up a foul on the other end sending sophomore Brandon Fischer to the line for two successful free throws at 26.6 seconds remaining.
 
Lane secured the 64-57 victory by making 5-of-6 free throws over the final 20 seconds.
 
Spring Hill was led by Rogers with 12 points while Fischer and Morrissey added 11 points each. The Badgers shot 44.7% (21-47) from the field and 35.3% (6-17) from 3-point range. SHC lost 17 turnovers to 13 steals by the Lane defense.
 
The Dragons shot 40.4% (21-52) overall and hit 25% (4-16) of their 3-point attempts while fumbling away 13 turnovers to six steals by SHC. Terrance Bridgeman led all scorers with 23 points while Ash hauled in 11 rebounds to pace the Dragons to a 31-23 victory in the rebound war.
 
The Badgers (4-17, 3-7 SIAC West) return home to the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Monday night to face the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians (4-14, 4-5 SIAC West) at 7:30 p.m.
