Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 non-conference loss road loss the University of Tampa (UT) Spartans on Sunday afternoon at Pepin Stadium in a match decided in the final minutes.
The Spartans (2-0) and the Badgers were knotted in a scoreless tie at the intermission with Tampa suffering eight offside penalties. The defenses dominated the first period of the contest as SHC got off just three shots in the first 45 minutes and UT was limited to two shots.
Tampa broke the scoring drought in the 57
th minute when Jason Collister scored his first goal of the season off an assist by Lewis Sugden, but SHC responded with a tying goal in the 78
th minute as senior forward

Tapfuma Dimairo of Wellington, New Zealand in a play begun by freshman defender
Griffin Morgan of St. Louis, Mo.
The deciding goal would come via a successful Tampa penalty kick in the 85
th minute off the foot of Fredinho Mompremier for his third goal of the young season.

Will Carpenter (0-1-1) made one save against seven shots and six corner kicks by Tampa while Spartan keeper Jake Richards (2-0) collected three save versus six shots and three corners by Spring Hill. Spring Hill was whistled for one offside with 10 fouls and two warnings and the Spartans were flagged for eight offside penalties, nine fouls and one warning.
Following the match, SHC head coach
Steve Wieczorek was proud of the effort put forth by his Badgers. "Quite frankly, on the road against this level of competition, another draw today would have been okay," he said. "But even with the loss, I am very pleased with the way we played as a team and there were moments by individuals out there where we showed development."
Wieczorek sees the season as a work-in-progress, but likes the progress his young Badgers are making. "I was very happy with our determination, our commitment and even our application today," he said. "With the way we played, the 2-1 outcome very well could have been us."
The Badgers (0-1-1) will again travel to the Sunshine State on Friday when they begin play in Wyndham Deerfield Beach Men's Soccer Classic at 4 p.m. (EST) versus the 25
th-ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights (2-0) at Bobby Campbell Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
