Despite spirited effort, Badgers fall at UAH, 3-1
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team closed out play at the 2016 Hilton Garden Inn South UAH Classic hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17) loss to the host Chargers on Saturday morning in Spragins Hall.

The Chargers (2-0) earned 26-24 victory in the first set by rallying from a 19-16 deficit to tie the match at 23-23. In the second set, the Badgers and the Chargers traded points until UAH broke free to take a 20-17 advantage and then rattled off the final five points of the set for a 25-18 victory. Undeterred, SHC claimed an early 7-3 bulge in the third set, but UAH again rallied to knot the score at 16-16. The Badgers maintained their composure, however, and forced a fourth set with a 25-19 win capped by a block at the net by senior Molly Griffin and junior Katelyn Bobinger.

UAH wasted no time in the fourth and final set by racing out to a 16-11 lead and held on for the 25-17 victory.

As a team, SHC hit for a .145 (45-26-131) average, but also limited UAH to a .197 (52-35-137) average. The Badgers benefitted from 54 digs, nine blocks (4-10) and six services aces, but hurt themselves with 10 service aces and five reception errors. UAH collected 53 digs with five aces and 12 (0-24) blocks. The Chargers suffered seven service errors and six reception errors.

Individually, senior Madison Seuzeneau of Tampa, Fla., smacked out 16 kills while freshman setter Anna Tietjens of St. Louis, Mo., dished out 41 assists and an ace. Sophomore Randi De'Armitt collected four aces on the day and freshman Cassidi Sterrett of Lee's Summitt, Mo., pulled in 21 digs and 21 receptions.

The Badgers (3-2) next travel to Frankfort, Ky., to begin play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster hosted by Kentucky State University. SHC will open play at 8 a.m. on Friday versus the Lady Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College.
