Wolves devour Badgers, 1-0
Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team suffered its third consecutive 1-0 loss after dropping a hard-fought Gulf South Conference (GSC) road outcome to the University of West Georgia (UWG) Wolves at University Field on Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the Wolves (6-2; 2-1 GSC) finally broke onto the scoreboard in the 63rd minute when a header by Francessca Ellis off an entry pass by Katie Mitchell found the net to put the Badgers in a late hole.

Badger freshman goalkeeper Kayla Beaston (0-6-1) defended a barrage of 29 shots and 16 corner kicks with three saves while Morgan Springer of UWG made two saves against 11 SHC shots with one attempt from the corners.

Following the match, SHC head coach Allison Whitworth was proud of the fight put forward by her Badger team. "This team fought for each other," she said. "They battled and played quality soccer for the entire game."

Whitworth sees her squad molding into the framework she has designed. "With four or five dangerous chances in front of goal, we need to get one of them on frame, but as a whole our progress is continuing in our team," she said. "Our team system and team mentality showed tonight. We are still giving up too many set pieces where it's too easy to lose a mark just one time and get punished. We have to turn around from this performance and put another one on the field on Sunday versus Valdosta State."

The Badgers (0-6-1, 0-2 GSC) will host the Valdosta State University Blazers (0-5-1, 0-2 GSC) on Sunday in a conference match beginning at 1 p.m. on Library Field.
