Statesmen veto Badgers in overtime, 2-1
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team endured a 2-1 Gulf South Conference (GSC) road loss at the hands of the Delta State University (DSU) Statesmen at Delta Field on Friday afternoon with the Statesmen scoring two late penalty kicks to notch the victory.

The Statesmen (3-3, 1-1 GSC) and the Badgers battled to a scoreless tie at halftime with DSU out-shooting the Badgers 12-1 over the first 45 minutes of play. Badger sophomore Viktor Kvarnlof broke the scoring ice in the 53rd minute with a ball into the top of the goal over a leaping Statesmen goalkeeper Harvey Stevens for his first tally of the year.

DSU tied the game at 1-1 with a successful right-footed penalty kick into the left side of the goal in the 68th minute and then ended the game in the 94th minute with a golden goal penalty kick by Connor Hogg when his shot found the net on the right side.

Badger senior goalkeeper Will Carpenter (1-5-1) made two saves against 21 shots and four corner kicks by DSU while Matthew Klinck (2-0) earned the win in relief of Stevens with two saves in 39 minutes of play.  Overall, SHC took just six shots with no corner opportunities.

SHC has now allowed six penalty kick goals on the season while attempting none.

The Badgers (1-5-1, 0-2-1 GSC) will visit Clinton, Miss., on Sunday to take on the Mississippi College Choctaws (3-1-1, 1-0 GSC) in a conference match at 4 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
