Spring Hill ladies let Bulldogs slip away, 1-0
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 Gulf South Conference (GSC) home loss to the Union University (Tenn.) Bulldogs at Library Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (1-3-1; 1-1 GSC) cracked the scoreboard in the 64th minute when Shelby High accepted a long entry pass from Georgia Hopkins off the right side and found the back of the net from just inside the left post.

Badger freshman goalkeeper Kayla Beaston (0-5-1) made nine saves against 21 shots and eight corner kicks by the Bulldogs while Kristen Francis (1-3-1) collected two saves versus seven shots and one attempt from the corners by Spring Hill.

"I'm proud of the fight in the group, said SHC head coach Allison Whitworth following the contest. "They continue to leave it all on the field. The hardest part about growth is that results don't always show it. The little things we do right some of the time are going to keep turning into most of the time and all of the time."

Whitworth still sees areas where her team needs improvement, however. "We had a lot of chances in front of goal and breakaways toward goal that we need to finish," she said. "Kayla had a big game again with nine saves. Darby Rasch and Gabrielle Burmaster both got in on goal a few times. Also, Lauren Clement played a great game organizing and setting the tone in the back line."

The Badgers (0-5-1, 0-1 GSC) will travel to Carrollton, Ga., on Friday to face the University of West Georgia Wolves (4-2, 1-1 GSC) in a conference match at 6:30 p.m. (eastern) on University Field.
