Badger Volleyball digs past Gold Nuggets, 3-0
Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team earned a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-13) non-conference road victory over the Xavier University (La.) Gold Nuggets on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.
 
The Gold Nuggets (6-11) trailed Spring Hill 17-12 after a Madison Seuzeneau kill in the first set, but Xavier rallied to take 22-21 lead on a kill by Adili Rikondja. The Badgers regrouped to prevail behind two Molly Griffin kills and two Xavier attack errors. Griffin recorded eight kills in the opening set.
 
In the second set, five straight points gave the Gold Nuggets a 17-16 lead, but another Seuzeneau kill put the Badgers ahead to stay at 19-18 as Sarah Senft notched a kill and blocks by Griffin and Katelyn Bobinger led the way. Seuzeneau tallied five kills and Senft four kills in the set with Cassidi Sterrett scooping in 12 digs.
 
The Badgers scored the first three points in the final set and never lost the lead. Taylor Hurst added put the Badgers' 23rd and 24th points on the board with kills as a Xavier ball-handling error ended the match. Senft slapped down four kills in the set.
 
As a team, SHC hit .233 (44-14-129) in the match with four aces, 58 digs and two (0-4) total blocks. Griffin had 10 kills while Anna Tietjens distributed 21 assists and Sterrett had 20 digs. Xavier was limited to a .091 (29-19-110) attack percentage with two aces 65 digs and nine (2-14) blocks.
 
The Badgers (9-3, 5-0 SIAC West) will next travel to Albany, Ga., for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover Tournament on Sept. 22-24, beginning with the Clark-Atlanta University Panthers (4-0, 0-0 SIAC East) on Thursday at 8 a.m. (East)
