Badger Baseball closes 2016 with 4-1 loss to No. 11 West Florida
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team closed out the 2016 season with a 4-1 non-conference loss to the 11th-ranked University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts on Tuesday night at historic Stan Galle Field.

The Argonauts (32-13) took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when first baseman Justin Ambrosino drove in second baseman Nic Strasser with a double to right-centerfield and catcher Kyle Hamner followed with an RBI-single up the middle to plate Ambrosino. UWF increased their lead to 3-0 in the 5th frame as Hamner added his second run-scoring single with a safety into right-center that once again brought in Ambrosino.

SHC centerfielder Ulysses Fluellen put the Badgers on the board in the 7th inning with a lead-off line drive home run down the right field line. Spring Hill would get no closer, however, as the Argos tacked on a fourth run in the 8th inning when third baseman Jimmy Redovian sneaked a one-out single up the middle to score centerfielder John Price from 2nd base. SHC brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, but UWF stopper Steve McClellan ended the threat with a swinging strike out to earn his eighth save of the year.

Spring Hill senior starter Wesley Parrish (8-4) went 6.0 innings with six hits allowed, five walks and five strike outs to finish with a team season-high of 86 strike outs. Gary Dorsey (1-0) picked up his first win of the year for UWF in just his second start with five innings of work, four hits, no walks and three strike outs.

For SHC at the plate, seniors Garrett Webb, Matthew Spradlin, William Floros, Alex Jones and Jacob Malkoff each picked up a hit in their final game in purple. Ambrosino, Hamner and Redovian each collected a pair of hits for the Argos.

The Badgers finished the 2016 season with a 29-16 overall record and a conference-leading 18-3 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
