Box Score The West Division-leading Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team secured a 7-2 victory over the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division-leading Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams on Friday night at historic Stan Galle Field.
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the 4th inning, SHC exploded for four runs in the frame when shortstop
Maverick Latour tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field top plate left fielder
Conner Harrison. Third baseman
Matthew Spradlin then drove in a run with a single to right-center that brought in designated hitter
Brennan Fontenot. Catcher
Alex Jones followed with a single to left field to bring in second baseman
Garrett Webb and the throw in from the outfield went to the wall down the 1st base line to score Spradlin, making it a 5-2 Badger advantage.
Center fielder
Ulysses Fluellen opened the bottom of the 5th inning with a home run down the left field line and Spring Hill successfully worked a 1st-and-3rd double steal in the 7th inning as Harrison took home when Fontenot beat the tag at 2nd base.
Wesley Parrish moved to 8-2 in his senior campaign lasting seven innings with six hits allowed, two walks and nine strike outs. Seniors
Andrew Pierson and
Hunter Nowak each worked an inning in relief as Pierson gave up a hit and a walk with a strike out and Nowak sat down three consecutive batters to finish the game.
The Golden Rams used five pitchers in the contest with reliever Damarkus Green taking the loss in two innings of work allowing three hits and a walk with one strike out. Starter John Paul Barnard went two innings with two hits, two walks and three strike outs.
At the plate, Spradlin was 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and Fontenot found two hits on the night. For ASU, designated hitter Jonathan Galan had two hits with a double and an RBI while first baseman Juan Vidal also had two hits, with a double and an RBI.
The Badgers (28-14; 17-2 SIAC) will close out the conference portion of their schedule on Saturday with an SIAC doubleheader versus the Golden Rams (16-32, 14-5 SIAC) at 12 p.m. on historic Stan Galle Field.
