Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team opened the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) portion of its schedule by sweeping a doubleheader away from the Lane College Dragons by the scores of 10-1 and 22-2 at historic Stan Galle Field on Saturday afternoon.
In the opening game, the Badgers scored three runs in a 1st inning highlighted by a two-run home run out of left field by right fielder
Michael Druhan. Druhan later added an RBI-double in the 3rd inning and finished the day with a 4-for-6 performance including five RBI.
SHC starter
Christian Bahlinger (3-1) went five innings with two hits, a walk and nine strike outs in Game One.
The second game saw Badger starter
Dylan Kiene (2-2) go five innings with five hits allowed, two walks and six strike outs as catcher
Brennan Fontenot went 3-for-3 with two home runs, seven RBI and two walks.
Other big days by the Badgers included first baseman
William Floros with three hits and three RBI, catcher
Alex Jones with four hits and four RBI, and second baseman
Thomas Smith who slapped a two-run inside-the-park home run to deep right-center in a nine-run outburst by Spring Hill in the 6th frame.
The Dragons (1-12, 0-2 SIAC) were paced by first baseman Myron Poydras who had two hits with an RBI, catcher Ronald McGhee with two hits including a double, and left fielder Blair Dukes with an RBI-double in the 3rd inning of the second game.
The Badgers (9-8, 2-0 SIAC) will be back at home on historic Stan Galle Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. to finish this three-game series versus the Dragons.
