Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split a non-conference road doubleheader at the University of Mobile Lady Rams on Tuesday night by rallying to win a marathon opening contest 7-6 in 12 innings, but falling 7-2 in the nightcap.
The Lady Rams (15-8) put runners at 2nd and 3rd bases with two outs in the 2nd inning versus Badger starter
Caroline Sagrera (14-7), but the senior right-hander ended the threat with a swinging strike out. An inning later, the Lady rams would draw first blood when third baseman Anna Blake Barnette drove an RBI-double to the left field fence to score centerfielder Taylor Clinkenbeard from 2nd base.
Sagrera surrendered a second run in the 4th frame off two wild pitches that moved Ram catcher Ashley Sprayberry from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to home.
The Badgers responded in the top of the 6th inning when catcher
Kali Clement drove in centerfielder Niki Bryars with a double down the left field line and right fielder
Katelyn Wilson followed one batter later with a double to deep left field to plate first baseman
Madeline Burchell with the tying run.
Spring Hill jumped out by two runs in the top of the 8th and 9th innings only to see the Lady Rams answer with two runs of their own on each occasion. In the top of the 12th frame, the Badgers finally took the lead for good with an RBI-bunt single by Wilson to bring in Clement from 3rd base and give Spring Hill the 7-6 victory.
Sagrera went the distance for a 12-inning, 210-pitch win with nine hits, eight strike outs, four walks and six hit batters. Makayla Scott (4-4) took the loss in 6.2 innings of relief with seven hits, five strike outs and five walks.
At the plate, Wilson was 4-for-6 with three RBI and Clement had two hits with two RBI for Spring Hill. Mobile's lead-off hitter Clinkenbeard recorded a 5-for-6 outing.
The Badgers hurt themselves with three fielding errors in the second game as starter
Danielle Clark (8-5) did not surrender a hit until the 4th inning, but already trailed 2-1 on the scoreboard. Clark lasted four innings with two hits, three walks, six hit batters and one strike out. Sagrera finished the final two innings of the 7-2 loss with no hits, a walk and two strike outs.
Mobile starter Karley Sanders moved to 5-0 on the year in four complete innings with two hits, five walks and five strike outs while Mackensie Williams earned her first save of the year in three innings of relief with a hit, a walk and no strike outs. Badger centerfielder

Spring Hill (24-12, 12-0 SIAC) will visit the Miles College Golden Bears (10-20, 9-2 SIAC) for a conference single game in Birmingham on Thursday at 4 p.m.
