Badger Bowlers finish year at Sectionals
SMYRNA, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) Bowling Badgers competed in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Champions (ITC) Sectionals in Smyrna, Tenn., on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Badgers have qualified two consecutive years for team sectionals under head coach Ben Hoefs. In a pre-tournament interview Hoefs says his goal for the team goals at Sectionals is, "to improve from last year." In the 2014-2015 season, the men's team finished 11th of 18 and women's finished 11th out of 12 at sectionals.
 
The Badgers competed in 64 baker games over two days. The format of the tournament was broken down to four blocks of 16 games, the first 32 on Saturday and 33-64 on Sunday. After the first 16 matches, the men were in 6th place with a pin fall of 3,073 with a 192 average. The women were in 12th place with a pin fall of 2,666 concluding a 167 average.
 
Ending day one and 32 baker matches the men were placed 9th with a total pin fall of 3,048 for the second block of games 17-32, giving them an overall one day average of 192. For the women, concluding the day the badgers were ranked 11th with a total pin fall of 2,812 for the second block giving them a 171 average for the first half.
 
On Sunday the men were placed 12th after the third block of games 33-48. The Badgers had a total pin fall of 2,795 for that quarter and a 175 average, adding to their tournament average of 186. The women were in 11th after the third block with a pin fall of 2,584 for the set to average 162. Concluding the first 48 matches the women were keeping a 168 pace.
 
Ending the day and the ITC, the men finished their fourth set with a 2,905 pin fall to finish 12th out of 20 team competitors. The men finished with a total pin fall of 11,825 over 64 games to average 185 for the tournament. The women finished the fourth block with a total pin fall to 2,816 to finish 11th among 18 team competitors. The women threw for 2,816 pins giving them a total pin fall of 10,878 for a 170 average.
 
The Badgers battled through a tough seed in the ITC. When evaluating the program Hoefs believes, "Overall, Spring Hill has improved much as a team."
