Softball torpedoes Lady Argos in DH split at home
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split results of a non-conference doubleheader versus the University of West Florida (UWF) Lady Argos at Murray Field on Wednesday afternoon by winning 8-0 in the opener and falling 5-2 in the nightcap.

The Badgers exploded for a seven-run 3rd inning and cruised to an 8-0 five-inning victory over the Lady Argos (9-4) in the first game as senior starter Caroline Sagrera (3-5) went the distance in a one-hit performance with two walks and five strike outs. Jenna Charnock, Mary Glass, Katelyn Wilson and Taylor Lahasky each had two hits with Glass tallying three RBI.

Becca Taylor (4-2) took the loss for UWF in 2.2 innings with nine hits allowed.

West Florida rebounded to score three runs in the 5th inning of Game Two to break open a scoreless game and hold on for a 5-2 victory. Kalyn Chapman (2-1) earned the victory in a complete game with eight hits allowed, a walk and eight strike outs while Badger freshman Danielle Clark (2-3) took the loss with five hits allowed in seven innings that included five walks and five strike outs.

Shortstop Carmen Byrd and second baseman Savannah Folse had two hits apiece for Spring Hill while right fielder Katelyn Wilson ripped her first collegiate home run in the 6th inning. UWF catcher Rhiannon Sassman had two hits and three RBI for the visitors from Pensacola.

Spring Hill (6-8) will next host the University of Mobile Lady Rams (4-1) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, February 24, at 12 p.m. on Murray Field.
