Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team swept both halves of a non-conference doubleheader versus the University of North Alabama (UNA) Lions by the scores of 6-3 and 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
In the first game, the Lions (4-2) took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning off a two-run home run by designated hitter Taylor Hayes who lifted a ball that kept travelling just enough to clear the left field fence. The Badger answered back with an RBI-single to left-centerfield by shortstop
Thomas Smith in the bottom of the frame to slice the lead to 2-1.
UNA tallied a third run in the 3rd inning as second baseman Kyle Crabtree found an open spot on the left side of the infield and his ball found the outfield wall due to an over-shifted leftfield, bringing in shortstop Peyton Sockwell from second base.
The Badgers would take a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning as catcher
Alex Jones, designated hitter
Brennan Fontenot and centerfielder
Ulysses Fluellen each tacked on runs with Jones smacking a double to plate third baseman
Matthew Spradlin, Fontenot adding a single to bring around Jones, and Fluellen turning on the afterburners to beat out a throw to first base on what would have been an inning-ending double play.
SHC added two insurance runs in the 6th inning when Smith opened the frame with a triple to left, Spradlin followed with a triple to center and first baseman
William Floros brought in Spradlin with a single to left-center.

Smith and Jones each had two hits and an RBI in the contest for Spring Hill while Lion centerfielder Conner Kiser had two hits for the visitors.
In the nightcap, Spring Hill took a 2-1 lead in the 4th inning when right fielder
Michael Druhan tattooed his third home run of the year over the left field fence to leadoff the frame. UNA tied the game at 2-2 in the 7th inning with a clutch two-out single to left-center by Crabtree. The Lions then took a 5-2 lead in the 8th inning off an RBI-single by Hayes and a two-run, two-out double by pinch hitter Heath Wood.
Spring Hill came up with more answers in the bottom of the 8th inning and tied the game at 5-5 when Fontenot lifted a long sacrifice fly to deep center field, Jones scored on a wild pitch and left fielder
Conner Harrison belted a game-tying single to right to plate Druhan who had reached earlier on a dropped infield pop-up.
After walking the leadoff man,
Hunter Nowak (1-0) got out of the top of the 9th inning with a double-play ball to second base and a grounder to shortstop while Jones provided the offensive heroics in the bottom of the inning.
