Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team was forced to accept two non-conference losses at a tri-match hosted by the University of West Florida (UWF) by falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-17; 25-18) versus the University of West Alabama Tigers and 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-18) to the host Lady Argos in the UWF Field House on Saturday evening.

In first set of the opening match, the Tigers (14-13) stretched out an early 12-7 advantage and maintained a four- to five-point bulge for the remainder of the set in route to a 25-19 victory. The second set saw the Badgers pull to a 4-2 lead, but UWA rallied to build out a 9-6 cushion. The Badgers quickly erased the 3-point deficit at 9-9, but the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run to make it a 17-9 UWA lead. SHC fought back to make it a 23-17 hole, but UWA would finish out the set with a 25-17 win.

West Alabama wasted no time in building an 8-3 lead in the third set, but clawed back to an 8-7 disadvantage behind the serving of freshman Cassidi Sterrett. From there, SHC would continually battle to keep the score close, but could not crest the hill to take a lead as a final 5-0 run by the Tigers sealed a 25-18 UWA victory.

SHC was paced by Sarah Senft and Taylor Hurst with eight kills each while setter Anna Tietjens distributed 29 assists with 15 digs. As a team, the Badgers were held to a season low .061 (32-24-131) attack percentage with just one ace, 61 digs and two (0-4) blocks.

UWA hit for a .248 (42-12-121) percentage with five aces, 65 digs and six (1-10) blocks. Briana Sandifer and Yanesha Johnson each tallied 10 kills as Callie Murphy handed out 31 assists with 13 digs for the Tigers.

During the nightcap with the Lady Argos (18-6), West Florida jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first set and never looked back in a 25-11 decision. A 13-3 Lady Argo lead in the second set ultimately resulted in a 25-16 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match for UWF. SHC took a quick 5-0 lead in the third set, but after a timeout the Lady Argos launched a furious 7-0 run that put the Badgers in a 7-5 hole. UWF wrapped up the match with a 25-18 final set victory.

SHC hit for a .109 (38-16-110) average with 33 digs and five (2-6) blocks while UWF built a .358 (51-13-106) average with four aces, 55 digs and five (0-10) blocks.  Savannah Becnel of SHC had 10 kills while Tietjens recorded 18 assists. For UWF, Katy Kuhlmeier had 11 kills and Monique StCyr had 23 assists. Tori Martella scooped in 14 digs for the home standing Lady Argos.

After the matches SHC head coach Peggy Martin was frank in her thoughts. "We did not compete all that well," she said. "We had some very good execution at times, but we just need to be more consistent. It was a good opportunity for us to see where we stand."

The Badgers (25-5) will host the Xavier University (La.) Gold Nuggets (13-14) in a non-conference match on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
