Badger volleyball corrals Lady Rams, 3-0
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team avenged a 3-1 loss earlier this season to the University of Mobile Lady by slapping out a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) non-conference victory over the Lady Rams on Thursday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

The Lady Rams (17-6) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first set and kept the Badgers on their heels until a 3-0 run by Spring Hill turned a 7-8 deficit into a 10-8 advantage for the home team that they would not surrender. The lead rapidly grew to commanding 19-12 and 22-13 cushions before wrapping up in a 25-17 victory for SHC. The Badgers outhit the Lady Rams .364 (14-2-33) to .229 (14-6-35) in the opening set.

In the second set, UMobile again took a 2-0 lead, but the Badgers exploded for a 7-point run to build an 8-3 bulge. The Lady Rams fought back to make it 11-9 only to see SHC use a 4-1 burst midway through the match to expand the lead to 19-12. A late 3-0 run by UMobile made the score 23-20, but SHC held on for the 25-21 win.

The third and final set saw the Badgers and the Lady Rams traded 11 early ties until SHC used a crucial 4-0 run behind the serving of freshman Payton Gidney to establish a 21-17 window. Spring Hill closed the match on a 4-1 run to secure the 25-19 victory as well as the straight set victory.

After the match, SHC head coach Peggy Martin was proud of her team's focus coming tinto the night. "I am really happy for our players to get a win over a very good Mobile team that has been a long time coming," she said. "I really want to commend both teams for playing some really good volleyball tonight. I'm very proud of our team for being aggressive and executing the game plan unbelievably well. We needed to do that in order to beat a very good team."

Spring Hill's win snapped a five-match losing skid to the Lady Rams that dated back to 2014. The last SHC win over their in-town rivals came in the championship match of the 2013 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Tournament in Montgomery with a 3-0 score.

As a team, SHC hit for a .289 (41-8-114) attack percentage with four aces, 52 digs and five (4-2) blocks while holding the Lady Rams to a .233 (42-15-116) attack percentage with one ace, 58 digs and one block.

Individually, Madison Seuzeneau and Katelyn Bobinger each collected 11 kills for the Badgers while setter Anna Tietjens distributed 36 assists and Randi De'Armitt served up two aces. On defense, libero Cassidi Sterrett scooped in 10 digs with 13 receptions and freshman Sarah Senft denied the Lady Rams with three blocks - two solo and one assisted by Savannah Becnel who also tallied a solo stop.

The Badgers (24-3) will wrap up this three-game home stand on Tuesday night when they host the Lady Knights (6-12) of Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) in a non-conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center beginning at 6 p.m.
